The Family Matters exhibition catalogue was conceived as an extension of the exhibition itself—a book that continues the narrative of Bratislava’s families, their histories, and connections.

Visually, the publication builds on the exhibition’s identity, while the book format allowed us to expand and reinterpret its visual language. Formally and conceptually, it draws from the same foundations—the red color referencing old Pressburg and bold typography inspired by historical inscriptions create basis for unified visual system. The result is a confident publication, designed with the same respect for the city, its families, and their stories.

Typography once again plays a central role, while color carries conceptual meaning. The palette—red, black, and white—is expanded with silver, introducing a tactile, crafted quality to the printed medium. Silver alludes to the representational, at times even bourgeois, dimension of the families’ lives that the exhibition explores. It also serves as the base for the photographic section, which brings the family stories closer through both imagery and atmosphere.

The book is structured into three main parts—Slovak texts (black on white), English texts (white on black), and a silver photographic block connecting both language sections.
