OVERDESIGN is a publication concept dedicated to everything unusual, excessive, and deliberately “over the limit” within design and visual culture. It grows from an extended research project—originating in the graduation thesis of Terézia Denková—which examined the boundaries of design and what it means to cross them.OVERDESIGN is a publication concept dedicated to everything unusual, excessive, and deliberately “over the limit” within design and visual culture. It grows from an extended research project—originating in the graduation thesis of Terézia Denková—which examined the boundaries of design and what it means to cross them.
The search for a definition of “overdesign” opened a wider investigation: how contemporary society perceives the crossing of norms, conventions, and expectations, and how the addition of the prefix over- distorts or amplifies meaning. Overdesign, oversized, overeducation, overthinking, overdose, overproduction—these terms reveal a cultural landscape marked by saturation, acceleration, and excess.
The publication reflects this perspective both conceptually and visually. Rather than presenting a single narrative, it proposes a series of editions, each exploring one OVER phenomenon through its own dedicated visual and editorial system. Typography, structure, and materials respond to the thematic tension of each issue, creating a platform where design itself becomes a tool for examining the boundaries it seeks to exceed.
